Por último, en septiembre saldrá la versión en formato bolsillo de The glass town game de Catherynne M. Valente.
Este año 2018 va a ser el año de Emily Brontë, se cumplen 200 años de su nacimiento (30 de julio de 1818) y muchas editoriales tanto inglesas como españolas seguro que van a aprovechar el tirón.
Por ahora ya tenemos las reediciones de la editorial Alianza de finales del año pasado de Cumbres borrascosas, Agnes Grey, Jane Eyre y El sabor de las penas disponibles. Este próximo mes de febrero también verá la luz, esta vez gracias a Alba editorial, una recopilación de poemas de Emily Brontë.

Si hace unos días os hablaba de las próximas publicaciones que habrá en inglés relacionadas con la familia Brontë y con Jane Eyre, hace poco saltó la noticia de que en castellano también vamos a tener una nueva obra que trata, en esta ocasión, sobre los objetos cotidianos usados por la familia.

Los escritorios portátiles tuvieron un papel crucial en la obra de estas escritoras: fue la curiosidad que llevó a Charlotte a fisgonear en el escritorio de Emily lo que propició que su primera obra llegara a la imprenta, seguida después por Jane Eyre y Cumbres borrascosas.
Dentro de la iniciativa Adopta una autora después de haber hablado un poco de algunas curiosidades sobre Charlotte Brontë y de haber creado infografía de su vida quería aprovechar el mes de marzo para dar a conocer las biografías existentes tanto sobre ella, como no, como sobre otros miembros de la familia.
En el blog ya podéis encontrar reseñas de alguna de las biografías existentes de la familia Brontë, tanto en general como centrada en alguno de sus miembros. Algunas obras están más centradas en su entorno o sus obras maestras, otras incluso son obras de ficción basadas en hechos reales. Sea como sea, os dejo a continuación una breve lista de las reseñas ya disponibles:
Claro está, tengo muchas más en casa pero tampoco son las únicas existentes. Mi intención con la entrada de hoy es, además de hacer un repaso de los libros ya reseñados en el blog, presentaros una infografía donde aparecen las biografías más importantes publicadas hasta el momento. Claro está hay unas cuantas que no he podido incluir pero que tampoco son precisamente sencillas de encontrar debido a que se publicaron ya hace unas cuantas décadas.
Por desgracia muy pocas son las obras que han sido traducidas al castellano de las aquí presentes, y menos aún las que se han escrito directamente en español. A la venta podréis encontrar Todo ese fuego de Ángeles Caso, libro del que hablé rápidamente en esta entrada, también está el libro de Elizabeth Gaskell de La vida de Charlotte Brontë, y en algunas librerías de segunda mano podréis encontrar probablemente El sabor de las penas de Jude Morgan o El mundo interior, las hermanas Brontë en Haworth de Juliet Gardiner, pero casi ahí termina la cosa.
Puestos a destacar alguna obra, si solamente os apetece leer un libro sobre Charlotte os recomiendo Charlotte Brontë: a life de Claire Harman y si lo que os interesa es la familia entera, la mejor es The Brontës de Juliet Barker.

Espero que esta infografía, a pesar de que le faltan algunas obras, os pueda ayudar a la hora de buscar más información sobre la familia o sobre alguno de sus miembros.
Uno de los libros más específicos sobre la familia Brontë que vais a poder encontrar en el mercado (en inglés) es The Brontës in Brussels, escrito por Helen MacEwan, que trata solamente de los años 1842 y 1843, cuando Emily y Charlotte estuvieron en un internado en Bruselas.
Esta obra, de poco más de 200 páginas, nos cuenta a la perfección cómo fueron los meses que las dos hermanas pasaron juntas en el internado de los Heger y cómo fue la experiencia posterior para Charlotte, que regresó sola poco tiempo después. La escritora forma parte del Brussels Brontë Group, fundado en 2006, que, además de llevar un blog constantemente actualizado con noticias y curiosidades sobre las hermanas Brontë y sus novelas, realizan actividades en la ciudad de forma ocasional. Se nota su pasión por las hermanas en casi cada línea que ha escrito y ha conseguido narrar de forma interesante y llamativa un periodo de tiempo que sirvió de inspiración a Charlotte para escribir sus novelas El profesor y Villette, entre otras cosas.
La primera parte está centrada en conocer qué llevó a las hermanas a irse a Bruselas, un lugar tan alejado, para aprender idiomas. Nos habla de dónde estaba situado el internado y de qué aspecto tiene hoy la ciudad, también de sus dueños, Zoë y Constantin, su relación con las jóvenes alumnas, sus progresos en clase y, como muestra, tenemos cuatro redacciones, dos de Emily y dos de Charlotte, a nuestra disposición. De imprescindible lectura son también las cuatro cartas de Charlotte que se conservan (porque hubo muchas más) dirigidas a Constantin Heger, donde se puede ver su amor y casi obsesión por él.
Como las comparaciones son inevitables, Helen MacWan introduce fragmentos de Villette donde se ve la influencia que tuvo este internado en la redacción de la novela. Lógicamente, el punto central es la ciudad de Bruselas y también podremos conocer cómo eran distintas zonas de la ciudad en aquella época y cómo fueron cambiando con el paso de los años desde que estuvieron las Brontë allí hasta la actualidad. Y, por supuesto, la última parte del libro está dedicada a una pequeña guía que nos sirve para recorrer aquellos puntos emblemáticos de la ciudad por los que pasaron o donde estuvieron Emily y Charlotte.
Aunque ya conocía las vivencias de ambas hermanas en la ciudad, el punto de vista que nos presenta aquí la autora, con las redacciones, las cartas de Charlotte y la «guía de viajes» de Bruselas me parecen unos aportes muy interesantes al mundo de las biografías y obras sobre la familia Brontë.
